Memorial

“… a reassuring message to all the creatives out there who all experience those moments of darkness.”

In the particularly gloomy months of early 2012, Thomas Brown and Sarah May embarked on a path exploring some of the darker aspects of the creative process.  Whilst having it’s origins as a personal reflection on fear and failure, ‘Memorial’ is an expression of hope, celebration and beauty.

Tapping into traditional motifs of public display, the presentation of memory in this body of work seeks to counteract those emotions we all try to suppress by giving them significance through a more formal sense of display.

They present an unresolved dichotomy.  As failed and fantastical sources of sustenance the vessels are frozen at on the cusp between life and decay.  They appear to support to the flowers for the moment but we soon realise that this may not be sustained for much longer.

NAKKNA has collaborated with British photographer Thomas Brown for the launch of their lastest collection GEOMETRICAL CONSTRUCTIONS.
The collection is inspired by geometrical shapes. NAKKNA’s vision was to interpret these strong shapes into elegant, wearable silhouettes for the consumer.

Thomas Brown created 5 films, each of them investigating the different geometric designs of the pieces.
The result is a beautifully poetic and quirky interpretation of the collection.

NAKKNA is a Swedish fashion brand founded by Camilla Sundin - Lindberg and Claes Berkes. They are known for their progressive and neo-minimalistic expression of contemporary fashion.

Thomas Brown is a British artist specialising in film and photography. A few months back, I spent five very enjoyable days shooting the latest Target campaign, which has just started to come out in the US.  Here’s some shots of the building of 5 incredibly detailed and crafted sets.  Big thanks to all at the Wieden & Kennedy, House of Schwartz, Martin Bourne, the awesome Artifex Productions and everyone else who made it happen.
